Where to Promote to UMSON Audiences

Below is a list of places you may choose to promote your news and events. Additionally, a printable Marketing Plan Checklist is available for download.


The Elm: Nursing
a community-driven website updated each business day

Weekly For/um 
a weekly digest of content published on The Elm: Nursing sent to UMSON faculty and staff each Tuesday; submissions must be received by the prior Friday

The Elm Weekly
a weekly newsletter sent to all UMB faculty, staff, and students each Monday; submissions must be received by the prior Wednesday

Submit an Announcement:

  • news, initiatives, or event save-the-date or register-now reminders

Submit an Accolade:

  • awards, presentations, accomplishments, or kudos

Note that only the Office of Communications submits and manages Elm Stories.

UMSON Calendar
UMB's events calendar that feeds to the UMSON website

monthly e-newsletter sent to alumni and friends; a publication calendar is available

Event Promotion Timeline

Below is a basic outline to help you plan for event promotion. If you are hosting the event at UMSON, be sure to reserve your space before you begin.

8-12 weeks out Save the Date
Basic information: date, time, location

Submit to the Digital Display Monitors


Digital display monitors are used for communicating University news, events, and announcements. All information submitted for the displays must be related to the University of Maryland, Baltimore community.

Image Specifications:

  • File types: .jpeg or .jpg
  • Dimensions: 1920x1080 pixels at 300 dpi
  • Maximum file size: 10MB
  • File name: last name_date (e.g., Smith_7.1.11)

Slides from Microsoft PowerPoint presentations will not be accepted. To convert a PowerPoint slide, you will need to be sure the slide size is at the Standard (4:3) ratio, and then you will need to "Save As" a JPEG.


Upload your image file below at least five business days prior to the requested posting date. 

All submissions must comply with the University of Maryland Style Guide and are subject to review in accordance with the UMSON Editorial Review Policy. UMSON has the right to refuse any submission. Advertisements for commercial products and/or services are prohibited.
