Yolanda Ogbolu, PhD, NNP, FNAP, FAAN

The Bill and Joanne Conway and Professor
University of Maryland School of Nursing

Dr. Ogbolu was appointed the Bill and Joanne Conway Dean of the University of Maryland School of Nursing in July 2023. She is a tenured professor and is the first alumna to serve as the School of Nursing’s dean. After 21 years in clinical practice as a board-certified neonatal nurse practitioner, she was appointed to the UMSON faculty in 2010. 

Dean Ogbolu’s interprofessional and community-engaged research and scholarship, teaching, and professional activities have focused on addressing disparities in care locally and globally. Her projects have centered on strengthening nurses’ capacity to impact global health, improving the provision of culturally and linguistically appropriate care in rural and urban hospitals, and addressing social isolation and social determinants of health in low-resource communities. 

She has garnered more than $12 million in funding from various state and federal agencies and foundations and has served nationally on projects with the American Association of Nursing, the National Quality Forum, the National League for Nursing, and the Surgeon General’s Office. She has consulted internationally with the World Health Organization.

She has received numerous honors and awards, including as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, a fellow of the National Academies of Practice, and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholar. She earned her Associate of Arts in Nursing at Baltimore City Community College and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from UMSON.

 

Karen Doyle headshot

Karen E. Doyle, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN

Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer
University of Maryland Medical Center

Dr. Doyle has 40 years of nursing experience across executive leadership, emergency nursing care management, and patient experience.

As Chief Nursing Officer, Dr. Doyle helps oversee nursing practice, patient outcomes, operations, strategic planning, policy formulation, and regulatory compliance, among other key areas across UMMC’s Downtown and Midtown campuses. She brings a broad array of experience as a proven, transformational executive leader and change agent who has led innovative patient experience and clinical practice initiatives, policies, and solutions. Under her leadership, UMMC secured its fourth consecutive Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2024.

Previously, Dr. Doyle served as Senior Vice President of Nursing and Operations at UMMC’s R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, the first integrated trauma hospital in the country. She played a significant leadership role in UMMC's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccine rollout as well.

Dr. Doyle holds Doctor of Nursing Practice, Master of Science, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees from UMSON and a Master of Business Administration degree from Loyola University in Baltimore. She serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at UMSON. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and serves on the Board of Directors of the Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital. Dr. Doyle was recognized with the UMSON Distinguished Alumni Award in 2022.

 

Peggy Norton-Rosko headshot

Peggy Norton-Rosko, DNP, RN, NEA-BC

Chief Nurse Executive
University of Maryland Medical System

As chief nurse executive for UMMS, Dr. Norton-Rosko serves as the system’s leader for nursing practice, standards of care, nursing professional development, and the partnership with schools of nursing. She also supports UMMS’s strategic planning, nursing workforce development, continuous clinical improvement initiatives and the organization’s High Reliability journey. 

Prior to her current role, Dr. Norton-Rosko served as the regional chief nursing officer for Trinity Health’s Illinois and Indiana region. Prior to that, she served as the chief nursing officer for George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Her clinical background includes many years as an advanced practice nurse working with cardiovascular surgery patients and many years as a critical care nurse. 

She has served in affiliate and adjunct faculty positions for several schools of nursing. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Illinois University, a Master of Science in Nursing from Loyola University of Chicago, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Chamberlain University. She was named to the Johson and Johnson Nurse Innovation Fellowship for 2023 - 24. 

Dr. Norton-Rosko is committed to supporting a professional nursing practice environment that supports excellent patient care by advocating for nurses to engage in professional governance to shape their practice and improve patient outcomes.

 

Elizabeth Galik, PhD, CRNP, FAAN, FAANP

Chair, Department of Organizational System and Adult Health, and Associate Professor
University of Maryland School of Nursing

Dr. Galik is a professor and chair of UMSON’s Department of Organizational Systems and Adult Health. As a nurse practitioner, she specializes in improving care practices for older adults with dementia and their caregivers.

Dr. Galik teaches in the DNP Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner specialty and mentors doctoral students. She has served as the principal investigator for externally funded research grants that support initiatives focused on teaching caregivers in long-term care facilities strategies for optimizing function and physical activity and effectively managing behavioral symptoms in older adults with dementia.

Dr. Galik continues to provide direct patient care to older adults with dementia and support their caregivers in assisted living facilities. She also has developed a house call practice for management of dementia symptoms. She is editor-in-chief of Caring for the Ages journal and is a past president of the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association.

Dr. Galik is a Scientific Review member of the National Institute on Aging. Additionally, she has served as an expert advisor for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, a role in which she worked to improve behavioral health and reduce the inappropriate use of antipsychotics in both long-term care and acute-care settings.

Jenni Day, PhD, RN

Senior Director, Clinical Excellence and Professional Development
University of Maryland Medical Center and University of Maryland Medical System

In her role, Dr. Day oversees education, practice, Magnet, outcomes, evidence-based practice, and research at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She was previously the Director of Nursing Inquiry and led the development, implementation, and evaluation of research programs and evidence-based practice across UMMC’s Downtown and Midtown campuses. She mentors clinical nurses, chairs the Clinical Education & Professional Development council, and provides systemwide professional development leadership for the 13-hospital University of Maryland Medical System. Her research focuses on workplace culture, nursing outcomes, and nursing self-care. 

Prior to joining UMMC, Dr. Day was the nurse scientist at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She has more than 12 years of nursing leadership experience and 20 years in nursing. She also serves as an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing, co-leading the UMNursing academic-practice partnership. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Johns Hopkins University, and her Doctor of Philosophy degree from Duke University.

Barbara Resnick headshot

Barbara Resnick, PhD, RN, CRNP, FAAN, FAANP

Professor, Sonya Ziporkin Gershowitz Chair in Gerontology, and Associate Dean for Research

Dr. Resnick has over 40 years of clinical experience as a nurse practitioner across all settings of care. Her research program focuses on optimizing function and physical activity and adherence to healthy behaviors among older adults, exploring resilience and genetics on function and physical activity, and testing dissemination and implementation of interventions in real world settings. This work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Health Care Quality, and foundations such as the Helen and Leonard Stulman Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Her current research is on optimizing function and physical activity among older adults living with dementia when hospitalized; implementing Pain Clinical Practice Guidelines for residents in nursing homes; and implementing an interdisciplinary wellness clinic in senior housing.  

Dr. Resnick has over 350 published articles, numerous chapters in nursing and medical textbooks, and books on geriatric medicine and care of older adults, restorative care, assisted living, and resilience. She was the editor of Geriatric Nursing journal for 16 years and is the co-editor of the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association and an associate editor and on editorial boards for numerous other journals. She has held leadership positions in multiple nursing, aging, and interdisciplinary organizations.  

Dr. Resnick has been recognized with numerous national awards, the most recent of which include the 2022 University of Maryland Distinguished Professor Award and the Elkins Professorship, the 2023 Lamy Lecturer for the American Society for Consultant Pharmacists, and the 2024 Legacy Award from the Fellowship of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Resnick earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Connecticut, her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, and her PhD from UMSON.

 

Gyasi Moscou-Jackson headshot

Gyasi Moscou-Jackson, PhD, MHS, RN 

Director of Nursing Inquiry 
University of Maryland Medical Center 

Dr. Moscou-Jackson is responsible for overseeing UMMC’s research and evidence-based practice (EBP) programs, resources, and policies that ensure hospital-based nurses generate (or are consumers of) research evidence to improve patient care. She is also an advisor to UMMC’s Nursing Research and EBP Council, chair of the UMMS Nursing Research Council, and alongside the UMSON associate dean of research, she leads the research arm of UMNursing.

Dr. Moscou-Jackson has led and engaged in nursing-led research on a variety of topics related to improving patient outcomes and health care delivery with a focus on clinically vulnerable populations. Given the complexity of the health care environment, her recent research projects have investigated psychosocial exposures and interventions that impact the patient experience and health care quality.

Before joining UMMC in 2019, Dr. Moscou-Jackson served as a program officer for the Healthcare Delivery and Disparities Research program at the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute and as a registered nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Howard University, a Master of Health Science with a concentration in health communication, program planning, and evaluation from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and PhD in Nursing from the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.

Entry-into-Nursing Education and Practice Team


Katie McElroy, PhD, RN, CNE 

Associate Professor and Associate Dean for the Baccalaureate Program
University of Maryland School of Nursing

Dr. McElroy has been on the faculty at UMSON for almost nine years. Prior to obtaining her doctorate, she worked in maternal/child health at various hospitals in the Baltimore region, including the Johns Hopkins Hospital, St. Agnes Hospital, and Anne Arundel Medical Center. 

As a faculty member at UMSON, Dr. McElroy has taught didactic and clinical undergraduate and graduate courses in evidence-based practice, research, community/public health nursing, and environmental health. She has developed expertise in leveraging academic-community partnerships to serve families with young children in vulnerable communities. Prior to her appointment as associate dean in 2023, she was vice chair of the Department of Family and Community Health for two years. Dr. McElroy now oversees the online RN-to-BSN program as well as the entry Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. 

She earned her BSN, Master of Science, and PhD degrees from UMSON. She served for four years on the Board of Directors of the Association of Community Health Nursing Educators and is a member of the Baltimore County Board of Health.

 

Robin Price headshot

Robin Price, MSN, RN 

Manager, New Graduate Nurse Residency Program
University of Maryland Medical Center 

Price has been a nurse since 2002, and most of her experience was as a bedside telemetry nurse. In 2017, she transitioned to her passion as a nurse educator, providing leadership, expertise, and professional support services to direct care staff and leaders in nursing and patient care services.  

In 2020, Price became the manager of the New Graduate Nurse Residency Program, providing direct oversight of the Nurse Residency Program for the UMMC Downtown and Midtown campuses. She led the efforts to receive full accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, leading UMMC to become the first of the UMMS hospitals to earn this status. Price has been involved in many educational initiatives through UMMC and serves on the UMNursing Entry-into-Nursing Education and Practice Team.

Price holds a Master of Science in Nursing (Nursing Education) from Walden University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Salisbury University.

Shannon Idzik headshot

Shannon Idzik, DNP, CRNP, ANP-BC, FAANP, FAAN

Professor and Associate Dean for the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program
University of Maryland School of Nursing

Dr. Idzik has been on the UMSON faculty since 2005. She previously served as program director for UMSON’s Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner program and director of the DNP program.

Dr. Idzik maintains a faculty practice as a nurse practitioner at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center’s Comprehensive CARE Center. She is active in the professional community, serving on various boards and taskforces. She is the president of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF), having previously served as treasurer of NONPF and as the NONPF representative for the current revision of the National Taskforce Criteria for Evaluation of NP programs. 

She is active in the professional community, having served as a Collegiate Commission on Nursing Education site visitor and as a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing AACN Task Force on Implementation of the DNP. In addition, she has served as an item writer for national NP certification exams. She has more than 50 publications, has presented more than 100 times, and has served as the principal investigator on more than $2.2 million in grant funding and as key personnel or coinvestigator on grants totaling more than $20 million. 

She has also served as president of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland and on numerous statewide committees, including as a board member of the regional health information exchange, an appointed member of the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission Physician Alignment and Engagement workgroup, and a member of the Maryland Intimate Partner Violence Taskforce. She served as one of 11 non-federal members (and the only NP) on a federal advisory commission to make recommendations to Congress on diabetes care in the United States. She was awarded the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners State Award for Excellence in 2012 and received the NONPF policy award in 2015.

Brooke Andersen, DNP, CRNP

Andersen earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master of Science in Nursing as an acute care nurse practitioner, both from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Following her graduate training, she relocated to the East Coast to begin her nurse practitioner career at the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, initially joining the Trauma Surgical Team before transitioning to critical care.

In 2011, she co-founded the NP Critical Care Fellowship at Shock Trauma and currently serves as its director. Since enrolling its first cohort in 2012, the fellowship has graduated 24 fellows and continues to be a model of post-graduate training in acute care. She also serves as the senior clinical program manager for the Advanced Practice Critical Care Team. 

Andersen has been dedicated to clinical placement of students in the acute care program and has acted as the education coordinator at UMMC since 2009. She collaborates with UMSON to ensure clinical placement and establish relationships between UMSON and UMMC.
