Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) 125 and 201 Training

What are these courses about?

The HIPPA trainings provide an overview of HIPAA law, preparing UMB employees and researchers to ensure proper implementation of privacy and security protections for all identifiable patient health information.  


Who must complete these trainings?

All study team members engaging in research at UMB involving human subjects are required to complete HIPAA 201, regardless of affiliation.

UMB policy also requires that all study team members employed at UMB take HIPAA 125 training. If you are not employed by UMB, you are not required to take this course.


Where can I access the courses?

Log into the HIPAA training database to complete your training. 

  • Your username is your 6-digit employee ID number.
  • Your password is your first name.

How often do I have to complete the course?

These courses are taken only once and do not expire.
