Sept. 1, 2022: CareStart COVID-19 Home Test Kit Expiration

The Access Bio CareStart COVID-19 Antigen Home Test Kits that UMSON has distributed with an expiration date of February 2022 expire on Aug. 31, 2022.

Though the manufacturer does not recommend using the test kits past the expiration date, there are some ways to determine if the test kit you have can potentially still be used. When opening the test device package, you will see a package of beads. If the white and yellow beads have not turned green, the test device may still be usable.

Additionally, when squeezing the vial to put the sample in the well, the control line on the test device should turn purple instantly. If it does not, the test may no longer be accurate. Otherwise, please follow the instructions that are provided in the test kit.

Please also see the attachment with the list of from the manufacturer with the extended expiration dates based on the lot number on the test kit (listed on the back of the test kit above the expiration date).

UMSON does not have plans to order an additional quantity of test kits for distribution at this time.

Please note that you can order free test kits from the federal government only through Thursday, Sept. 1. Ordering through the program will be suspended on Friday, Sept. 2, because Congress has not provided additional funding to replenish the nation’s stockpile of test kits.
