RN-to-BSN/RN-to-MSN

How It Works:

  • The scholarship is available to entering (new to UMSON) students and covers in-state tuition and fees.
    • For RN-to-MSN students: The scholarship covers these items for the RN-to-BSN portion of your program only. You are welcome to apply for an additional Conway Scholarship to cover the remainder of your MSN program once you have completed 9 credits of graduate study and as long as you have half of your graduate credits remaining.
    • Please note that every institution has its own in-state residency requirements. Familiarize yourself with the University of Maryland, Baltimore requirements prior to applying for this scholarship. 
  • You must already have completed an application to UMSON prior to applying for the Conway Scholarship; however, it is not necessary to await an admission decision prior to applying.
  • To be eligible, you must register for a minimum of two courses per semester. Summer courses are optional; however, if you choose to take courses during the summer, you must take two.
    • You'll work with an advisor to ensure you maintain the correct academic courseload; see the Courses You'll Take dropdown on the Online RN-to-BSN webpage.
  • You’ll be connected to a faculty mentor who will share their background and experience with you and who can help you:
    • explore your academic interests and discuss your academic progress
    • identify short- and long-term career goals
    • broaden your support network
    • build upon your strengths to grow personally and professionally.

You may receive your admission decision before you receive information about the status of your Conway scholarship application. All RN-to-BSN Conway Scholarship decisions are made after the scholarship application deadline, regardless of the date of your acceptance to UMSON.

Applicants Must:

  • be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • submit an essay of 300 words or less that addresses these questions:
    • How will this scholarship affect your life and career aspirations?
    • How will you use the knowledge you acquire to impact future patients, the nursing profession, and/or nursing science?

Conway Scholars Must:

  • remain in good academic standing
  • enroll only in courses required for the program of study
  • consult with mentor three times per semester
  • attend required Conway Scholars events and activities
  • consult with your advisor and your scholarship award letter to develop your plan of study and to ensure you are in compliance with the terms of your award.

Conway Scholars are not eligible to receive merit scholarships and cannot receive additional scholarships from UMSON during their program of study.

BSN

How It Works:

  • The scholarship is available to entering (new to UMSON) students and covers in-state tuition, fees, and books, based on need. You must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA** at the time of application.
  • You must already have completed an application to UMSON prior to applying for the Conway Scholarship.
  • You must register for a minimum of 12 credits per regular semester (unless it is your final semester of study).
  • You’ll be connected to a faculty mentor who will share their background and experience with you and who can help you:
    • explore your academic interests and discuss your academic progress
    • identify short- and long-term career goals
    • broaden your support network
    • build upon your strengths to grow personally and professionally.

Applicants Must:

  • submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA** at the time of application
  • be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • submit an essay of 300 words or less that addresses these questions:
    • How will this scholarship affect your life and career aspirations?
    • How will you use the knowledge you acquire to impact future patients, the nursing profession, and/or nursing science?

**Your scholarship may be adjusted at any point during the semester if your financial aid awards exceed your cost of attendance or financial need.

Conway Scholars Must:

  • maintain full-time status and consult with your advisor if unable to reach required minimum credit hours 
  • enroll only in courses required for the program of study
  • remain in good academic standing
  • consult with mentor three times per semester
  • attend required Conway Scholars events and activities.

Conway Scholars are not eligible to receive merit scholarships and cannot receive additional scholarships from UMSON or the Universities at Shady Grove during their program of study.

MSN (Including CNL) and DNP

How It Works

  • DNP student applications are accepted for the fall semester only.
  • Scholarship funding covers in-state tuition and fees, and it will be awarded for the remainder of your academic program.
  • The scholarship is available to current students who will have completed 9 credit hours of graduate study by the start of the semester for which the Conway Scholarship is awarded and have at least half of their credit hours remaining.
  • You’ll be connected to a faculty mentor who will share their background and experience with you and who can help you:
    • explore your academic interests and discuss your academic progress
    • identify short- and long-term career goals
    • broaden your support network
    • build upon your strengths to grow personally and professionally.

Applicants Must:

  • be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • submit an essay of 300 words or less that addresses these questions:
    • How will this scholarship affect your life and career aspirations?
    • How will you use the knowledge you acquire to impact future patients, the nursing profession, and/or nursing science?

Conway Scholars Must:

  • maintain a course load of at least 6 credit hours per semester (unless it is your final semester of study) and consult with your advisor if unable to reach required minimum credit hours 
  • enroll only in courses required for the program of study
  • remain in good academic standing
  • attend required Conway Scholars events and activities.

Conway Scholars are not eligible to receive merit scholarships and cannot receive additional scholarships from UMSON or the Universities at Shady Grove during their program of study.

PhD

How It Works

  • Applications are accepted for the fall semester only.
  • The scholarship is available to newly enrolled students only.
  • Scholarship funding covers in-state tuition and fees, and it will be awarded for the duration of your academic program. There is no service obligation.
  • You must already have completed an application to UMSON prior to applying for the Conway Scholarship.
  • You'll benefit from enhanced networking opportunities as part of the Conway Scholars community.

Applicants Must:

  • be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • submit an essay of 300 words or less that addresses these questions:
    • How will this scholarship affect your life and career aspirations?
    • How will you use the knowledge you acquire to impact future patients, the nursing profession, and/or nursing science?

Conway Scholars Must:

  • maintain a course load of at least 9 credit hours per semester (unless in the dissertation stage) and consult with your advisor if unable to reach required minimum credit hours 
  • enroll only in courses required for the program of study
  • remain in good academic standing
  • attend required Conway Scholars events and activities.

As this scholarship covers tuition and fees for the duration of your academic program, Conway Scholars are not eligible to have any other form of UMSON funding applied to tuition and fees.
