Understanding the Application Process
Submit Your Online Application
To apply, you must submit:
- Completed online application and nonrefundable application fee
- Official transcript from every college or university attended
- Resume or CV
- Essay
- Recommendation letter(s) (based on program requirements)
- Any additional program-specific required items
If you are claiming Maryland residency, you must complete the in-state residency classification process through the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
What Happens After You Apply
Your application is not considered complete when you press submit. You must monitor your admissions dashboard to track your status.
Application Submitted
You have submitted your application and paid the fee.
Application Incomplete
Your dashboard will show if items are missing or unreadable. Our office will contact you if clarification is needed.
Application Complete
All required materials and recommendations have been received. Your application is ready for committee review.
Admissions Decisions
Admitted
You must complete your confirmation form and submit your tuition deposit (if required) by the deadline listed in your offer letter.
Waitlisted
You must complete the waitlist intent form in your admissions dashboard.
Denied
Due to application volume, individualized feedback is not provided. Applicants may reapply and may be eligible to reuse some supporting documents by submitting the Reuse of Documents form.
Application Do’s and Don’ts
✔ Do
- apply to the correct program and start term
- confirm your campus location before submitting
- apply through UMSON Admissions Portal
- request official transcripts from all institutions attended
- apply using your legal name
- include previous names used on transcripts or academic records
- indicate if you previously attended UMSON
- indicate if you studied outside of the United States and submit required documentation
✘ Don’t
- apply to multiple programs unless instructed
- send transcripts before submitting your application and paying the application fee
- upload unofficial transcripts, recommendation letters, or test scores yourself (these must come directly from the source)
- upload expired RN licenses or licenses without expiration dates
Important Application Reminders
- Application fees are nonrefundable.
- Academic recommendations must come from instructors who taught you.
- International coursework requires credential evaluation.
- English language proficiency requirements may apply for international education history.
The fastest way to submit transcripts is electronically. Please allow processing time after submission.
