Health Care in the Library

In spring 2023, UMSON placed Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students in multiple branches of the Enoch Pratt Free Library throughout Baltimore in a partnership that was the first of its kind in Maryland. The partnership, Healthcare in the Library, allowed 56 students in the second-semester Clinical Care Across the Continuum course of UMSON’s entry BSN program to offer blood pressure checks, health screenings, and more to library patrons. And it provided a hands-on clinical experience for the nursing students.

Building upon the success of that initiative, UMSON and the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) in Maryland partnered in fall 2023 to launch Talk Health with the University of Maryland School of Nursing, which places entry BSN students in the PGCMLS Greenbelt Branch Library. The partnership provides health screenings, light physical activity programs, and educational presentations to library patrons while again providing a critical community/public health clinical experience for nursing students.
