Empowering Future Nurse Advocates | Spring, Summer, and Fall 2026

Are you ready to be the driving force behind changes in health care policy? UMSON invites entry-into-nursing (BSN and MSN-E) students to apply to participate in the first-ever Nursing Policy Academy — a prestigious, grant-funded opportunity supported by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) through its Faculty Scholars Grant Program.

This exclusive, resume-building experience is designed for entry-level nursing students who want to explore health policy, civic engagement, and leadership in action.

Program Highlights

  • Hybrid workshops every two weeks on health policy, advocacy, and equity

    • Maryland General Assembly field trip
    • Maryland Nurses Association Legislative Night
    • National Black Nurses Day on the Hill
    • Hispanic Health Policy Summit
    • Student-led town hall
  • Community advocacy projects with local organizations
  • Book club and op-ed writing on political determinants of health
  • Voter empowerment campaign and civic engagement events

Who Should Apply?

Entry-level UMSON nursing students:

  • graduating December 2026 or later
  • in good academic standing
  • passionate about advocacy, leadership, and social justice.
  • No prior policy experience required — just curiosity and commitment!

Students selected for participation will be notified by Jan. 23 and must be ready to participate in MNA Legislative Night on Feb. 2!
