We are pleased to offer a full week of activities and initiatives for all UMSON community members and UMMC nurses, both online/on social media and in person, in celebration of Nurses Week.

Show your Nurses Week spirit and your appreciation for Maryland’s nurses by adding our special image to your email signature. Click here for the image, then right click on the image and select "Save image as..." to save it to your computer. Then upload it to your email client’s email signature function.

She’ll be hanging out in the UMSON lobby throughout Nurses Week, so don’t miss the chance to take a selfie with a 2D, nearly life-size version of Louisa Parsons, UMSON’s first superintendent.

Take time today to thank the nurses who have made a difference in your life. It's easy: 

  • to thank on social media, save a "Thank a Nurse" template from our  Instagram story and tag away 
  • thank them in person!

The PATH to Health Equity for People with Intellectual Disabilities
11 a.m. - noon, UMSON 430/Online
Join us as Anne Williams, DNP '12, MS '86, BSN '82, RN, vice president, health services and education, and Justin Hunsinger, health engagement coordinator, Special Olympics International, present about the organization’s PATH to Inclusive Health. Despite severe need and higher health risks, people with intellectual disabilities (ID) lack equitable access to health services and die, on average, 20 years earlier than the general population in the United States. Thursday, May 11: Spirit Day

Show Your UMSON Spirit! 
Whether it's a T-shirt, hat, pin, or anything else, today we encourage you to sport your UMSON or University of Maryland, Baltimore swag. If you don't have anything with the logo on it, wear the color red! Take a pic of you, your friends, and/or your colleagues showing off your spirit, and tag us on Instagram or Twitter @marylandnursing or include our hashtag #UMSON. 

Annual Staff Anniversary Event
11 a.m. - noon, Room 150

Join UMSON's Staff Council and Staff Engagement for the annual staff anniversaries celebration. This year, we are celebrating 14 staff members for their 20th, 15th, 10th, and fifth work anniversaries! Learn more and RSVP.

Ice Cream Social
noon - 1:30 p.m., UMSON Courtyard
Cool off from the heat of finals and the end of the semester with Taharka Brothers ice cream in the UMSON courtyard (or lobby, depending on weather). Pick up themed swag, while supplies last.

While you’re there, paws for some time with the UMBPD Comfort K9, Poe! Sometimes called therapy dogs, these K9s are trained to provide relief and affection to people dealing with anxiety, depression, and even stress from exams. This sweet boy loves attention so come and say hello! And get ready for your close-up! Grab some friends, pick out some props, and have some fun with our Nurses Week photobooth.

Word on the street is that a certain famous bird may also make an appearance.

Friday, May 12: Flossie Friday

Tune in to #FlossieFacts 
Designed in 1892 by the School’s first superintendent, Louisa Parsons, who modeled it after one of Florence Nightingale’s own caps, the "Flossie" was the official cap of the School and served for decades as a symbol of the wearer’s professionalism and the School’s connection to the founder of modern nursing. Learn more about the cap and UMSON’s connections to it on our social media accounts today.

If you’re on campus in Baltimore, stop by Room 200 to check out our Flossie display and pick up some floss-y swag!
