UMSON faculty are engaged in cutting-edge science and research that can make an impact across the spectrum of health care, much of it groundbreaking in the evolution of the nursing profession.
Teams of faculty and student investigators in UMSON’s Center of Excellence in Disorders of Neuroregulatory Function are studying the molecular, cellular, and genetic mechanisms of the neuromuscular system to understand the persistence of chronic pain and its causes, including drug therapies used to treat cancer and HIV.
Susan Dorsey, PhD, RN and Christopher Ward, PhD. “Our Center and research program is truly translational. We make discoveries at the bench, and we can validate our findings in the clinic, and vice versa. There are very few nursing schools that have significant bench lab research programs with the infrastructure and capacity for research and training our future nurse scientists,” says Dorsey.
