We aim to:

  • provide access to data and assist with the analysis of nursing workforce data;
  • understand the areas of demand and the resources needed to meet those demands;
  • and ensure the State of Maryland is meeting the recommendation set forth in the Institute of Medicine’s 2010 Future of Nursing report that calls for improving collection methods of workforce data.

Purpose

Nursing workforce centers are recognized as “hubs that advance nursing education practice, leadership, and workforce development at state and local levels using data-driven approaches” (Donnelly, 2022). For this reason, the primary focus of the Maryland Nursing Workforce Center continues to be acquiring, generating, analyzing, and disseminating data for the Maryland nursing community and others. The MNWC has established partnerships with private, local, state, and national organizations and the government to meet the data needs of the nursing community in the state.

Mission

The Maryland Nursing Workforce Center belongs to every nurse and nurse worker in the state of Maryland. Our mission is to build bridges across the Maryland nursing community by serving as a resource for nursing data; an advocate for issues affecting the nursing community; and a champion for recruitment, retention, and educational efforts as we work together as a community to create a stronger Maryland nursing workforce.

Vision

We envision a diverse, dynamic, and sustainable nursing workforce that ensures accessible, high-quality care for individuals and communities across Maryland. We promote data-driven decision-making for innovative education, recruitment and retention, professional development, and advocacy to advance nursing issues.
