Visionary Pioneer Award
As part of this special year of celebration, we will recognize 25 outstanding alumni (both living and deceased) as UMSON Visionary Pioneers. The nomination deadline was June 1, 2014. Thank you to everyone who submtited nominations for alumni who have made a significant impact on and contribution to the field of nursing, based on their leadership, innovation, or entrepreneurship. Alumni selected for a Visionary Pioneer Award were informed of their selection in early October 2014 and will be honored at UMSON’s 125th anniversary gala on April 18, 2015.

During the UMSON Visionary Pioneer selection process, each nominee was evaluated by the Visionary Pioneer Award Committee according to the following criteria:
- Nominee has rendered distinctive service in the field of nursing and health care in clinical practice, education, or scholarship/research.
- Nominee is recognized by colleagues and peers for outstanding achievement.
- Nominee has demonstrated evidence of leadership, innovation, or entrepreneurship.
Recognition of UMSON Visionary Pioneers: Alumni selected for the Visionary Pioneer Award will be honored at UMSON’s 125th anniversary gala on April 18, 2015. Additionally, they will be recognized in a variety of media, including the UMSON NURSING magazine, the UMSON website, UMSON press releases, professional nursing publications, and other websites as appropriate.
