Leadership Development

Leadership skills are highly sought after by employers. Why? Because leaders show initiative and are highly motivated, skills that can make you stand out as an applicant.

 The SSC can support you in the pursuit of leadership skills through Student Organizations.

Professional Advising (BSN and CNL only)

All appointments will continue to be offered VIRTUALLY until further notice. 

If you're an entry-into-practice (BSN or CNL) student, professional advisors in the SSC can provide you with individualized, integrative, and ongoing educational support to promote academic success, career exploration, and your personal well-being.

Upon admission to the BSN program or CNL option, you'll be assigned a professional advisor who will guide you in the development of educational plans that are consistent with your academic, personal, and professional goals.

Your advisor assignment will be emailed to you no later than the fourth week of the semester.

Tutoring

The SSC offers Learning Lab Sessions and Peer Tutoring in specific courses taught by people who have previously completed those courses and who have strong communication and teaching skills.

For the Fall 2021 semester, Learning Lab Sessions and Peer Tutoring will continue to be offered virtually due to COVID-19. Days and times for Learning Lab Sessions will be communicated by course faculty and/or Learning Lab Leaders through Blackboard and email. 

All of our services are offered at no additional charge to students.

All services listed in this section are for Baltimore students only. Shady Grove students, please visit this webpage.

Learning Lab Sessions (BSN & CNL only) Peer Tutoring (all students)
Learning Lab Sessions are group sessions held in a classroom or virtually to study course material. 

Tutoring is available for the following courses:

  • BSN: 314, 316, 317, 319, 324, 327, 414
  • CNL: 501, 503, 505, 514
  • DNP: 790, 795

Group sessions are offered for the following courses:

  • BSN: 314, 316, 317, 319, 324, 327, 414
  • CNL: 501, 503, 505, 514

To schedule a tutor:

For 452 tutoring: information is listed on course Blackboard page

For 790 tutoring: Use Bookings to make a 30-minute or 1-hour appointment.

  1. Under "Select Service", select "Research Methods Tutoring (790)"
  2. Under "Select Staff", select "Keisha Indenbaum-Bates"
  3. Select an available date and time.
  4. Add details/additional information
  5. Select "Book" to submit your request.

For all other tutoring (314, 316, 317, 319, 324, 327, 414, 501, 503, 505, 514): Please complete the UMSON Baltimore Peer Tutor Request Form Fall 2021. We will do our best to honor all requests received via the request form in a timely manner, but cannot guarantee that tutoring will be available for all requests. Thank you for understanding.

Writing Support

In addition to University of Maryland, Baltimore's Writing Center services, the Student Success Center provides a professional writing tutor is available both in person and online to assist you with:

  • grammar
  • APA style (including recent updates to the 7th edition)
  • restructuring a paper.

All of our services are offered at no additional charge to students. 

Our writing support is open to all students in all programs.
