I am writing to you today with an update on our fall return-to-campus plans. The University System of Maryland and the University of Maryland, Baltimore are closely monitoring the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic. Given Maryland Gov. Hogan’s recent orders regarding in-person gatherings and recently released CDC guidance, we are considering a full return to in-person learning for the fall 2021 semester. We expect that we will have a final decision about this by mid-June.
Our recommendation for now is to plan for a full return to in-person learning in fall 2021 for courses and programs that were previously offered in person. We expect that in this case, our fall 2021 semester would be closely modeled on the fall 2019 semester. You can access the fall 2019 semester data to see when and how courses were offered in SURFS.
As we know more, we will communicate information to you as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued patience, and please stay tuned.
