March 22, 2020: Communication to Clinical Sites from Ann Mech, Director, Legal Affairs

The UMB president halted all in-person student experiences involving patients and clients. In addition, clinical sites suspended student rotations as they ramped up their own COVID-19 emergency responses. Nonetheless, our students are, on their own, able to volunteer or seek employment with health care facilities. Many are already employed as Certified Nursing Assistants and Registered Nurses at area hospitals. While their work in a hospital as a volunteer or paid employee cannot be a part of their for-credit educational program and will not be covered by the School's malpractice insurance, they are free to engage with health care institutions at this time for volunteer or employment opportunities.

We at the University of Maryland School of Nursing strongly value our relationship with our clinical partners and look forward to the time when our students can resume their clinical learning experiences at health care sites.
