March 11, 2020: Letter on COVID-19 to UMSON Students, Faculty and Staff from Jane M. Kirschling, Dean

UMSON students, faculty, and staff:

Given the unfolding situation with COVID-19 in Maryland and beyond, UMSON’s academic leadership has decided to cancel the delivery of in-person face to face classes on Thursday, March 12th and Friday, March 13th and use an alternative delivery format for classroom instruction. Labs and simulation activities, as scheduled, will continue to be offered on the Baltimore campus and at the Universities at Shady Grove on March 12th and 13th. Course faculty will be communicating via Blackboard the alternative delivery format for the in-person face to face classes.

We have begun to hear from selected clinical sites that students will not be allowed to continue with their clinicals/practicums. You will be notified by the School of Nursing if your clinical is impacted. The School of Nursing will work to make alternative arrangements as feasible in the coming weeks, with priority being given to students who are scheduled to graduate in May. If you are told by your preceptor or another official of the clinical site that you can no longer attend, please contact your course faculty as soon as possible.

Finally you should be aware that any individual who elects to travel, internationally or inter-state, may be excluded from entry into a clinical site given the protocols of that clinical site.
