Dear UMSON New and Continuing Students,
Here we are at the start of the summer term with some great news! I am pleased to announce that the University of Maryland School of Nursing will resume full in-person instruction for the Fall 2021 semester. We are finalizing the details including course meeting days and times, but they will be closely modeled on the Fall 2019 course schedule. There will be some exceptions, but I would encourage you to take this time to review the Schedule of Classes for Fall 2019 to get a general idea as to what to expect. We will have a finalized Schedule for Fall 2021 posted by the last week of June and let you know when it is available.
All students will be expected to follow the University’s COVID-19 infection control protocols. As protocols may change with the evolution of the pandemic, please be sure to pay close attention to any announcements from the University on any changes.
Additionally, this is a reminder that all students who have in-person learning experiences are expected to be fully vaccinated or have an approved vaccine exemption for religious or medical reasons no later than August 2. If you are obtaining a two-dose vaccination, you must have completed your first dose by July 1 and be fully vaccinated by August 2.
Also, hospitals in Maryland and Washington, DC, have announced COVID-19 vaccination requirements. As a student in any clinical or practicum setting, you will need to comply with the vaccination requirements of your clinical placement sites.
All continuing students returning to in-person learning experiences must upload proof of vaccination or exemption in Castlebranch. All new students will demonstrate vaccine completion or exemption as part of your onboarding compliance requirements. Failure to complete the required vaccination expectations or secure the appropriate exemption may result in your inability to come to school this fall. No exceptions to this will be granted. Please be sure to plan accordingly and don’t delay this critical step in ending this pandemic. There are plentiful supplies of vaccine throughout Maryland and neighboring states right now, in addition to the UMB Vaccine Clinic, which will stop providing first doses of the vaccine on June 17.
My best wishes for an enjoyable summer and I’m looking forward to seeing all of you this Fall.
