Dear Entry-into-Practice Students,
During the past week, there has been extensive discussion among nursing school programs within the University System of Maryland, major Maryland hospital systems, and the Maryland Board of Nursing regarding an early-exit option for selected students who want to begin working as Nursing Graduates in response to COVID-19 in advance of the May 14 degree conferral date. This would apply to UMSON students in the entry-into-practice Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and the Clinical Nurse Leader master’s option who are on track for graduation this May.
We are now finalizing the process for the early-exit option, including the timing. More detailed information on how to apply for this program will be sent via email by Friday of this week. Please note that all entry-into-practice students will be expected to participate in the online NCLEX review course on May 11, 12, and 13. It is essential that you keep these dates free of any other obligations.
I applaud you all for your dedication and resiliency during this difficult time. I know that given your education at the University of Maryland School of Nursing, you are well positioned to make a difference in our larger community.
