April 21, 2020: MIEMSS Follow Up

Dear Students,

I trust you are doing well and staying safe.

This is a follow-up to Dr. Theodore Delbridge’s April 2, 2020, letter regarding the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) initiative, posted on the UMB COVID-19 Preparedness webpage. As indicated in the letter, the skills you have acquired so far, as current nursing students, put you in a position to make a difference in our health care system today.

We have heard from students who have successfully applied to MIEMSS through the portal, and we would like to provide some recommendations. For those interested in this initiative, after you have created an account and MIEMSS validates your status and school, you will receive a certificate with your appropriate category distinguishing clinical experiences and relevant skills, based on your progression through your program of study at UMSON. You will be designated MEIMSS Clinical Extern Level I or Level III. Once you receive your certificate, you are encouraged to look for appropriate positions listed in local hospital job postings, which are advertising Clinical Extern positions for nursing students.

The process appears to be going smoothly, and students who have applied have received prompt feedback. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact either Barb Goff at bgoff@miemss.org or Terrell Buckson at tbuckson@miemss.org.

Thank you once again for considering contributing your skills and expertise to this critical initiative.

Regards,
