Applicants are required to have institutional support for their participation in this program and identify a mentor, preferably from their institution, who agrees to participate in the one-year program including attending sessions designed for mentors.

Applicants are registered nurses with:

  • a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • a graduate degree
    enrollment in a graduate program and/or two years leadership experience
  • an active Maryland nursing license

Employed by either:

  • a Maryland school of nursing
  • a Maryland hospital
  • a Maryland health care service agency/practice

Able to:

  • demonstrate leadership potential through your work and professional activities
  • provide documented support from your institution's leadership to participate in all NLI activities
  • provide documented commitment from a nurse mentor

2020-21 Application Timeline

April 30 (approximate) Call for applications opens
June 5 Application submission deadline
July 15 Applicant notified of decision
July 25 Applicant confirms acceptance
July 30 Official start of program

Completed applications received by the posted deadline will be reviewed by a committee comprised of academic and practice leaders. All applicants will receive notification of the committee’s decision. Selected applicants are required to confirm their participation no later than July 25, 2020.

Application Materials

All applicants will apply online and must submit the following:

  1. completed and signed NLI Institutional Support Form

  2. two-page personal narrative that describes:
    • career path and accomplishments to date
    • present and future goals
    • what you expect to achieve through your participation in this program

  3. professional vitae

  4. job description for your current position

  5. copy of your active nursing license

  6. mentor’s letter of agreement and professional vitae, including:
    • a brief description of the mentor’s career and accomplishments
    • a commitment to support the nominee through the yearlong program
    • a commitment to attend mentor designated activities
