The Office of the Academic Deans supports the academic mission of the school.

We collaborate with UMSON and UMB departments, providing a critical support structure for enriching the overall student experience.

Our programs include:

The academic affairs managed by the office include:

  • Curriculum development and implementation
  • Coordination of admissions processes and support
  • Insuring the integrity of each student's academic experience to include monitoring student progress
  • Fostering accreditation and certification elements related to student success

Consistent with strategic goals, the associate deans provide interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary leadership and report to the Dean.

The Office of the Academic Deans interfaces with the Office Student and Academic Services, including the Office of Admissions, the Office of Registration and Clinical Placements, and the Student Success Center. For the PhD program, the Office works closely with the UMB Graduate School in issues of student admission, progression, advisement, and graduation.

Baccalaureate Studies (BSN and RN-to-BSN)

The Office of the Academic Deans supports the traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and RN-to-BSN options at the School of Nursing.

Responsibilities of the office include BSN admissions, curriculum development and implementation, student progression, student advisement, NCLEX-RN preparation and tracking, and accreditation issues.

The traditional BSN option is a "2+2" curriculum that includes 61 upper division nursing credits, and the RN-to-BSN option is a 31-credit option.

Students in the traditional BSN option are accepted twice a year and come from four-year colleges and universities, as well as community colleges. The RN-to-BSN option also admits twice a year.

Both BSN options are offered on the Baltimore and Shady Grove locations. The RN-to-BSN core courses are also offered at the College of Southern Maryland. Several dual-admission partnerships with community colleges support seamless articulation of Associate degree students to obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing. 

Graduate Studies (MSN)

The Office of the Academic Deans supports the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) program and the master's-level academic mission of the school.

Responsibilities of the office include CNL admissions, master's curriculum development and implementation, and student progression, including academic jeopardy, monitoring of student's clinical compliance, and accreditation and certification elements.

Students in the master's programs are accepted twice a year and have the option of the following master's specialty tracks:

Doctoral Studies (PhD and DNP)

The Office of the Academic Deans supports the doctoral programs, the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

Responsibilities of the office include post-master's DNP admissions, PhD admissions, doctoral curriculum development and implementation, and student progression, including academic jeopardy, monitoring of student's clinical compliance, and accreditation and certification elements.

Students in the PhD program are accepted once a year. Students in the DNP programs are accepted once a year and have the option of the following specialty tracks:
