About Shady Grove
In 2000, the University System of Maryland established the Universities at Shady Grove, in partnership with Montgomery County, as a new and innovative model for delivering top quality higher education to the region. While enrolled in a nursing program at Shady Grove, you are taught by University of Maryland School of Nursing (SON) faculty, and get your degree from the SON. Montgomery County General, Shady Grove Adventist, and other area hospitals sponsor internships for our nursing programs.
Undergraduate Programs
The nursing major offered by the University of Maryland School of Nursing is an upper division professional program, designed to build successfully on a foundation of pre-professional courses that provide a liberal education and support the study of nursing.
Three program options are available within the baccalaureate nursing track to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- The traditional track offers upper division study in nursing which can be completed in two years of full-time study.
- The registered nurse track includes the RN to BSN, which can be completed in one year of upper division full-time study (part-time and online options are available for RN to BSN students).
- A RN to MS option is also available for qualified students who desire a fast track master's option.
