This master's specialty focuses on understanding the theoretical and research bases for the care of women across the life span. Students develop expertise in the management of care for women with an emphasis on childbearing and reproductive health care, including care of the newborn infant. Physical, psychosocial, cultural, economic, political, and spiritual dimensions of women’s health is emphasized. Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Certification Examination offered by the American Midwifery Certification Board, Inc. Web-based courses may be available. Full-time, part-time, and post-master’s options are available.

The nurse midwifery education program at University of Maryland, Baltimore is scheduled to be reviewed by the Division of Accreditation (DOA) Board of Review (BOR) for continuing accreditation in June 2007.
Please email any written third party comments to nhanson@acnm.org or mail to the DOA at ACNM, 8403 Colesville Rd., Suite 1550, Silver Spring, MD by May 15, 2007. Your comments will be included with other program materials at the June 2007 meeting. In all instances, your comments must directly relate to the continuing accreditation of this program and the DOA Criteria for Programmatic Accreditation, October 2003. Please cite the particular criterion of concern in your comments. The criteria can be found online at midwife.org on the right under the heading “DOA Documents.”
