The Office of Registration Services is responsible for the integrity of all student records. The office conducts registration, enrollment verification, collects grades and graduation clearance. The goal is to provide high quality academic and administrative information and support services in an efficient, effective and professional manner to the University of Maryland (UM), School of Nursing students, colleagues, alumni and the community.
Graduate students receive their advisor assignments with their acceptance letters. Entry-into-practice (BSN and CNL) students are assigned an advisor during their first semester.
You should initiate contact with your faculty advisor as soon as possible. You will develop a plan of study with the support of your advisor. Advising includes interpretation of program options, discussion of course requirements and course sequencing, and planning for career options, graduation, licensure, and certification.
Faculty members post their office hours. All students must meet with their faculty advisors during the published pre-registration advisement period that precedes each semester (except for the first semester, as noted above). Faculty advisors must approve all course schedules in order for students to register. Students are responsible for contacting their advisors to make appointments for pre-registration advising.
Students must register for coursework each semester in order to maintain degree candidacy. Registration is coordinated through the Office of Registration Services on the first floor of the University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON). UMSON uses an online registration process. Students receive detailed instructions concerning dates and registration procedures each semester. Click here to learn how to register.
SURFS is a Web-based companion to UM’s Student Information Management System. SURFS provides students with real-time information about their student records while at UM. Students can review their registration, grades, academic record, accounts receivable, and financial aid information through SURFS at: www.simsweb.umaryland.edu.
