This master's specialty prepares students for advanced practice in community/public health nursing. The curriculum focuses on health promotion and disease prevention. Students explore health needs of select populations in community contexts and develop expertise in epidemiology, program planning, and evaluation. Students also develop skills in grant writing, organizational analysis, and public messaging. Graduates are able to implement core public health principles and practice in a variety of settings, including local and state health departments, federal and state agencies, schools, and non-governmental agencies. Graduates are eligible for certification as an Advanced Public Health Nurse – Board Certified. Web-based courses may be available. Full-time, part-time, and post-master's options are available.
