Three professions – nursing, dentistry, and dental hygiene – committed to health promotion, created a vision about implementing an innovative interprofessional oral-systemic health model that has had an impact on the clinical education, practice, and research agenda for all three disciplines. Outcome exemplars of interprofessional initiatives will be shared. |

Often, the mouth mirrors what the body experiences; likewise, oral health affects the body and psyche. Oral/systemic links foster collaboration amongst health professionals. The University of Maryland, Founding Campus’ administration is committed to interprofessional education. As UM nursing and dental hygiene faculty strive to create an effective interprofessional education model, they will share their approaches to change, structural challenges faced, guides for success, and resultant curricular innovations. |
