Lyn Stankiewicz Murphy, PhD, MBA, MS, RN

Director for Professional Development

Lyn Murphy, the Director for Professional Development and an assistant professor in the Department of Organizational Systems and Adult, joined the faculty at the University Of Maryland School Of Nursing in 2001. Her area of interest focuses on the professional development of women involved in leadership positions, such as nurses and educators. She is particularly interested in the behavioral determinants that influence women to choose a lifestyle of leadership and the economic contributions of this behavior on society. The long-term goal of her research is to develop infrastructures that will assist women in developing leadership roles succeed in the current business world.

Dr. Murphy received her BSN from Carlow College in Pittsburgh, PA, her Masters in Nursing from the University of Maryland School of Nursing, her MBA from the University of Baltimore, and her PhD in Public Policy from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Dr. Murphy teaches Nursing Research on the Masters and Doctoral level and Health Finance on the Masters level. Additionally, she serves on Faculty Council, Faculty Senate, Process Improvement Committee, and Alumni Council. Additionally, she is the Faculty Advisor for the Nursing School Government Association (NSGA).

Sonia Smith

Coordinator for Professional Development and Continuing Education

Ms. Smith assists in the planning, organizing and coordinating of conferences, workshops, events and training sessions for nurses. Ms. Smith expedites and coordinates administrative details concerning registration, personnel transactions, contract preparation, and purchasing. She also coordinates venues, catering, and program materials as needed for each event. Ms. Smith’s organizational abilities and commitment to client services are a vital component to success of professional development and continuing education initiatives.
