Nursing Informatics Faculty
The University of Maryland School of Nursing is currently seeking doctorally prepared faculty for the Nursing Informatics Program.
Qualifications
- Eligible for RN license in Maryland
- Master’s in nursing and an earned doctorate in nursing or related field required.
- Expertise in nursing informatics.
- Prior teaching experience preferred.
- Record of scholarly achievement (research, publications)
- Evidence of interdisciplinary experience.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the program director in the development, implementation, and evaluation of courses and practicum placements.
- Assist in the recruitment and advisement of students.
- Teach in the School’s Nursing Informatics program at the graduate level (MS, PhD, DNP) and relevant courses in the undergraduate programs.
- Maintain scholarly contributions to nursing science (e.g., scholarly publications, beginning or established program of research, etc.).
- Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating the School’s informatics initiatives, such as the Summer Institute in Nursing Informatics, the Nursing Systems for Education in the 21st Century (NURSE21) project, and others.
- Provide nursing informatics leadership and service to professional associations, government agencies, benevolent organizations, and other bodies as appropriate.
- Participate actively in departmental, SON and University committees and task forces.
The School of Nursing, one of the largest in the country, is ranked 7th among the top ten schools in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. It enrolls over 1400 students (Fall 2006: BSN–675, MS–646, PhD–63, DNP-17). The Organizational Systems and Adult Health department is actively involved in the SON’s undergraduate and graduate programs. The department offers a diverse array of masters programs including Adult Health NP, Geriatric NP, Oncology Nursing, Trauma/Critical Care (CNS, NP), Nurse Anesthesia, Health Services Leadership and Management, Nursing Informatics, and Clinical Research Management programs. The Nursing Informatics Program, established in 1988, was the first in the country. The department has also amassed researchers in a Developing Center of Excellence in Disorders of Neuro-regulatory Function and a Developing Center for End of Life Care. In addition to the SON, the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus encompasses five other professional schools – Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Pharmacy and Social Work and is one of the fastest growing health sciences research centers in the United States. The unique composition of the campus enables health professionals to address health care, public policy and social issues through multidisciplinary research, scholarship and community action. Its location in the Baltimore-Washington-Annapolis triangle maximizes opportunities for collaboration with government agencies, health care institutions and life sciences industries.
