The University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) is seeking an Associate Dean for Research to lead the School’s research and scholarship mission. Consistently ranked among the top schools of nursing in the nation by U.S.News & World Report, UMSON enrolls more than 1,700 students in its baccalaureate, master’s, doctoral, and continuing education programs. In 2013, UMSON was ranked 9th in NIH funding among schools and colleges of nursing. Faculty research targets priority health issues including function and mobility in the elderly, pain and symptom science, substance-abuse and other stress-related disorders, consumer informatics, end-of-life care, patient-centered outcomes, implementation science, worksite health promotion, sleep disorders, and translational multi-omics childbirth outcomes. Two UMSON Research Centers support faculty mentorship and research--The Center for Health Outcomes and the Center of Biology and Behavior Across the Lifespan. The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Center for the Genomics of Pain is co-led by faculty members from the Schools of Nursing, Medicine, and Dentistry. Click here to learn more about UMSON.
UMB encompasses five other professional schools – Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Social Work, supporting interprofessional collaboration and education. The adjacent University of Maryland Medical Center is part of a multi-hospital system that includes affiliated community and specialty clinics. Faculty in the UMB schools generated $479.8 million in extramural funding in FY13, contributing to important advances in basic science and applied research.
