Assistant Dean for Educational Strategies and Technology
The University of Maryland School of Nursing is seeking an Assistant Dean for Educational Strategies and Technology to provide strategic, collaborative leadership in administering the Learning Technologies Unit in support of the School’s strategic plan and its teaching, scholarship, and practice missions. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Assistant Dean serves as a consultant and resource to faculty and students in the development, implementation and evaluation of learning technologies within all of the UMSON’s programs of study. The UMSON, with approximately 1,400 students, is one of the largest nursing programs in the country and a leader in the use of technology in education, research and practice; in 2007, it was ranked 7th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. In addition to the School of Nursing, the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus encompasses six other professional schools – Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health and Social Work and is one of the fastest growing health sciences research centers in the United States. The unique composition of the campus enables health professionals to address health care, public policy and social issues through multidisciplinary research, scholarship and community action. Its location in the Baltimore-Washington-Annapolis triangle maximizes opportunities for collaboration with government agencies, health care institutions and life sciences industries as well as the other University of Maryland campuses.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Dean for Educational Strategies and Technology provides leadership and administrative services in support of strategic planning and educational program development, and manages an array of human and technical resources that promote achievement of the School of Nursing’s mission and goals and which advance learner centered education. Direct reports include the Director of the Clinical Simulation Laboratories and the Director of Instructional Design. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to directing the development, implementation, and evaluation of distance learning technology, instructional-media and simulation-based learning; development, implementation, and evaluation of processes to promote faculty development; supports and/or conducts research which contributes to the evidence base for technology-supported educational strategies; and resource management. The Assistant Dean works with counterparts and services across the University of Maryland Baltimore and the University System of Maryland to facilitate the development, coordination, and acquisition of educational services and resources for the School.
