Determining Who Gets Chemotherapy for Breast Cancer: Biology vs. Anatomy

Komen LecturePresented by Daniel F. Hayes, MD
Stuart B. Padnos Professor in Breast Cancer
Clinical Director, Breast Oncology Program
Professor, Internal Medicine Hematology/Oncology

Overview
Research over the last 40 years has demonstrated a reduction in mortality due to adjuvant systemic therapy for breast cancer. The decision to recommend chemotherapy to cancer patients has traditionally been based on anatomic prognostic factors. However, recent research suggests that biologic factors can be used to personalize chemotherapy application. These factors and their implications will be discussed in this presentation.
