Universities at Shady Grove

University of Maryland School of Nursing students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, RN-to-BSN option, and Family Nurse Practitioner specialty have the ability to attend courses and complete the entire program at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) in Rockville, Md.

USG is a collaboration of nine, public degree-granting institutions that brings some of the top programs from across the state to one convenient facility in Montgomery County. ‌Programs at Shady Grove

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Students can complete their entire BSN at the Shady Grove location. This is a full-time, upper division professional program. Students are expected to complete the two years (59 credits) of general studies and prerequisites before applying to enter the School of Nursing as a junior.


Registered nurses with an associate degree or diploma in nursing can take courses and/or complete their BSN at the Shady Grove location. To graduate, you must complete a minimum of 59 undergraduate credits in the social and behavioral sciences, the natural and physical sciences, and the arts and humanities. We also award credit to students with a valid registered nursing license.

Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree with a Family Nurse Practitioner Specialty

Nurses with a BSN degree may earn their Doctor of Nursing Practice degree with a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) specialty at the Shady Grove location. ‌This specialty prepares advanced practice nurses to be primary health care providers for individuals of all ages and their families.
