Welcome! We are pleased to learn of your interest in the University of Maryland School of Nursing. You will find our online application process easy and convenient.
Please read all instructions noted below before beginning your online application. We suggest that you reserve 30 minutes to complete the online application. You will create a Login ID and Personal Identification Number (PIN). Your Login ID and PIN enable you to return to your application as many times as you wish before your final submission to the University of Maryland School of Nursing. You will also use your Login ID and PIN to your application status. Please note: Your Login ID is case sensitive.
All of your information is transmitted through a secure server and is kept fully confidential.
Instructions & Requirements
In addition to the online application, several items are required of applicants in each admission category. Submitted materials should include your full name and either your social security number or student identification number on each sheet. Use the following address for all postal submissions:

Applications and accompanying materials submitted to the School of Nursing immediately become the property of the University of Maryland. Applicants should make and retain copies of applications and all application materials before submission to the School of Nursing.
School of Nursing Baltimore and Shady Grove Campus
The University of Maryland, School of Nursing offers all of its programs at the Baltimore campus. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Traditional program, the RN to BSN classroom-based program, and selected Master of Science courses are offered at the Universities at Shady Grove, in Rockville, MD.
Degree-specific Information

All* Applicants Must Provide:
- $50 (U.S. currency), non-refundable application fee made payable to the “University of Maryland.” Applications will not be processed until the application fee is received. It is strongly suggested that the application fee be paid online or you can send a check or money order to the University of Maryland School of Nursing, Office of Student and Academic Services, 655 W. Lombard St., Baltimore, MD 21201-1579.
- An official transcript from each college, university or professional school you have attended, whether or not credit was earned. An official transcript must be submitted to the University of Maryland, School of Nursing Office of Student and Academic Services in a sealed envelope, as prepared by the sending institution. Electronic transcripts from University System of Maryland institutions will be accepted in lieu of official, sealed envelopes.
- Statement of Goals and Objectives (typed). Statements of goals and objectives are submitted online. Your statement will also serve as your writing sample. We recommend that you compose your Statement on a word processor prior to entering it online. Copy and paste your Statement from your word processor into the text box on the online application.
- Resume (typed). Resumes are to be submitted by mail. Be sure to include your full name and social security number (or Student ID) with your resume submission.
- Two Recent Letters of Recommendation. Letters submitted for BSN and Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) applicants should come from academic sources. Letters submitted for RN to BSN, RN to MS, MS, and Post-MS applicants should come from professional sources. Letters of recommendation must be submitted with the University of Maryland, School of Nursing Recommendation Form (PDF) or on official company stationery of the recommender with a valid signature. Completed recommendations should be submitted to the University of Maryland, School of Nursing by mail.
- Application for in-state Status Classification (if applicable). Applicants who wish to claim in-state (Maryland) residency status MUST complete the Status Classification Form. Download, print, and complete the form and submit it by mail.

All BSN Applicants Must Also Provide:
- Courses in Progress Form. Download, print, and complete the form and submit by mail.
- Professional Rescuer or Professional Healthcare Provider-level CPR certification. The certification does not need to be submitted with the initial application and should be taken no more than 3 months before the first day of class. (Certification must be current throughout the program.)

- In addition to the required RN to BSN (or RN to BSN Online) application, RN to MS applicants must also submit the online MS application. Please note that while both RN to BSN and MS applications are required to be submitted for this program option category, only one $50 application fee is necessary.

All Clinical Nurse Leader Applicants Must Also Provide:
- Professional Rescuer (without automatic defibrillator) or Professional Healthcare Provider-level CPR certification. The certification should be taken no more than 3 months before the first day of class. (Certification must be current throughout the program.)

All Master of Science Applicants Must Also Provide:

- Proof of the following is required and is evidenced by the submission of official transcripts as noted above under "All Applicants": a) baccalaureate degree with an upper division nursing major from an NLNAC or CCNE-accredited program, b) successful completion of a course in elementary statistics or nursing research and c) successful completion of a physical assessment course, except applicants to these nursing specialty areas: Nursing and Business Administration (MS/MBA), Nursing and Law (MS/JD), Health Services Leadership and Management, Nursing Informatics, and Clinical Research Management.

All† Nursing Post-Master's Certificate Applicants Must Also Provide:
- Copy of State of Maryland or compact state licensure submitted by mail or fax to 410-706-7238.
- Proof of the following is required and is evidenced by the submission of official transcripts as noted above under "All Applicants": a) baccalaureate degree with an upper division nursing major from an NLNAC or CCNE-accredited program, b) successful completion of a course in elementary statistics or nursing research and c) successful completion of a physical assessment course, except applicants to these Nursing specialty areas: nursing and business administration (MS/MBA), nursing and law (MS/JD), health services leadership and management, informatics and clinical research management.
†Students applying to the Teaching in Nursing and Health Professions Certificate must provide proof of current enrollment in a nursing or health sciences MS or PhD program with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 OR have successfully completed a master's or doctoral degree in nursing or a related health science from an accredited college or university.

All Applicants for Nursing Graduate (Master's Level) Non-Degree Course Enrollment (Coursework only — CWO) Must Provide:
- $50 non-refundable application fee.
- Copy of State of Maryland or compact state licensure submitted by mail or fax to 410-706-7238.
- An official transcript from each college, university or professional school you have attended, whether or not credit was earned. An official transcript must be submitted to the University of Maryland School of Nursing Office of Student and Academic Services in a sealed envelope, as prepared by the sending institution. Electronic transcripts from University System of Maryland institutions will be accepted in lieu of official, sealed envelopes.
- Proof of successful completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an NLNAC or CCNE-accredited program. Such proof is provided through submission of an official transcript in a sealed envelope, as prepared by the sending institution. Electronic transcripts from University System of Maryland institutions will be accepted in lieu of an official, sealed envelope.

International Applicants to All Programs Must Provide:
- Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) print out sent to the University of Maryland School of Nursing by the agency. School of Nursing school code: 5944. Please note: applicants who have successfully completed a high school, associate, baccalaureate or graduate degree at an accredited U.S. high school, college, or university are not required to submit TOEFL scores. Applicants for whom English is not the native/first language, however, are strongly encouraged to submit official TOEFL scores as part of the application process.
- Applicants who complete coursework outside the United States must have official transcript(s) evaluated by a recognized international credit evaluation service. Official evaluation of all foreign (non-U.S.) coursework must be sent to
the University of Maryland School of Nursing by the agency. Only the following agencies are acceptable:
- World Evaluation Services (http://www.wes.org);
- Education Credential Evaluators (http://www.ece.org); and
- Foreign Education Credential Services (http://www.aacrao.org).
